Running Accomplishments:

ran cross country in high school (back in the stone age when boys still ran 2 miles), fastest time was 10:54 on my "home" course, ran sporadically for the next 22 years, which means maybe 15-20 miles a week for 1-2 months and then nothing for 8-10 months, caught the bug again in 2007 when I met a lady who ran a marathon while on chemo, I decided I should get off my lazy a** then and there

establish consistency, twice in the past three years, I have started running and ran two marathons,  two 1/2 marathons, and other shorter races only to let my training lapse and quit, I want to be a consistent year round runner

Personal:

I am married and have two brilliant young sons.  The oldest likes to run and we all like to hike and hunt for geocaches.

went to an orthopedic specialist today, rads of left knee revealed no orthopedic injuries and no osteoarthritis (YEA!!!), rads of left ankle revealed only minor bone spurs consistent with an active man who has probably rolled his ankle a few times, but no other orthopedic abnormalities, no stress fractures, probably just muscle strain from overuse, starting PT and stronger NSAID, rest for a few weeks and then hopefully get back at it, I am going to swim and do some upper body weights for a few weeks and try to not lose to much conditioning (shouldn't be too hard since I don't have much anyway)

this is very cool, fun 10 leg relay race from Boulevard Brewery in Kansas City, Kansas to Free State Brewing Company in Lawrence, KS, it runs part of the way on a levee along the Kaw River and part way on the shoulder of a highway, each leg is anywhere from 2.5-5.5 miles, most teams have cool names and costumes and there is beer at the start and finish, highly recommended this popular race, the plan was for me to run the 2.3 mile leg 4 and the 4.7 mile leg 10 into the finish, my left knee and calf started screaming when I got up this morning after doing the 1/2 marathon yesterday, I stretched frequently, applied multiple layers of Biofreeze and was able to run leg 4 (averaged 7:12 miles), but it tightened up again afterwards and a teammate picked up the slack and ran leg 10, tonight, the calf and knee are hurting even after ice and Ibuprofen, I think I am going to have shut things down for awhile, no running for three weeks, I am going to swim laps at the YMCA and lift some upper body weights until May 1 and then try again, maybe do some massage therapy and PT, so this will be my last running entry until May 1, see ya later
